October 23

Hi everyone!

Today was a good, uneventful day for Adam. When I called this morning we found out that he went up 10 grams and is still weighing 3lb 5oz.
Over the last few days he has had slight issues with Gastroesophageal Reflux, which is common in premature newborns. It is when food, in Adam's case breastmilk, comes back up the esophagus because the muscle that closes the stomach off from the esophagus is not strong enough to tighten all of the way to prevent it. Also, due to his feeding tube going down his throat and directly into his stomach, the muscle could not completely close off the stomach either way. Today they added a thickener to my breastmilk before it went into his feeding tube. It makes the milk heavier so that it is more difficult for it to come back up. So far since adding the thickener, he has not had any episodes with the reflux.

I went down today to do some more kangaroo care. Adam seemed to enjoy it very much. He slept almost the entire time he was on my chest and when he woke up, he kept on grabbing at my chin and looking up at me. He's such a strong, curious little guy!
Anyway, I haven't much else to say! Thanks for reading!

Tiffany
